LA Kings Raise Stanley Cup Banner

Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings for winning the 2012 Stanley Cup Finals.  The raised the banner on Saturday night before losing to the Chicago Blackhawks.

It was quite an exciting Finals and one I've been hoping for.  The Kings were not expected to go deep, but they were streaking at just the right time to make it a playoffs to remember.  They were 8-0 on the road up to the Finals and eliminated the #1, 2, and 3 seeds in route to the Finals, the first team in NHL history to do that.  And in those first three series, they only lost two games (5 games with Vancouver, a sweep in 4 games over the Blues, and 5 games to eliminate Phoenix).

The Devils, on the other hand, needed 7 games in the first round over the Florida Panthers, five games to defeat the Flyers, and 6 to finish off the Rangers.

But since I really didn't have a terribly strong preference either way between the New Jersey Devils or the Kings, I wanted the winning team to hoist the cup on home ice.  It hadn't happened since the 2007 Anaheim Ducks and when the Boston Bruins did it in Vancouver last season, well, we all remember what happened.

But since the home team won, things played out a little differently.  Celebration.  And nobody celebrates like Los Angeles.

From TMZ.com, I give you just one picture from just one party the Stanley Cup attended...

Yes.  Those are oompa loompas and a very, um, front-heavy fan.  The Cup arrived with some of the Kings players and David Beckham.  Also in attendance were Chuck Liddell (UFC Fighter) and music by The Little Kings, a group of little people dressed as Kings' players.

We should have seen this coming.  And I mean both the championship and the resulting parties.  After all, didn't you watch Game Four?  The Kings fans were quite distracting behind the Devil's bench...

That's Devil's Coach Peter DeBoer and another front-heavy Kings fan. But she didn't make much of an impact on the Devils as the team captured their first win of the series. Game 5 in Jersey also went the Devil's way, so the blonde bombshell decided to up the stakes and display some Los Angeles love. Perhaps that would mess with the New Jersey bench.

The Kings won 6-1 and captured the Stanley Cup.  And Taylor Stevens (adult actress), was there to cheer the team onto victory from behind the visiting team's bench.

And last night, they raised the banner.
