Drunk Zamboni Driving

A Minnesota part-time zamboni driver was arrested for drunk driving. Drunk driving the zamboni.

Yep.

Joel K. Bruss was resurfacing the ice at a local ice rink, which should have taken 10 minutes and left a smooth, even ice surface. After 25 minutes and flooding some areas and rough patches in others (plus a couple of hard bangs into the wall), the police were called to the Hayes Ice Arena in Apple Valley and arrested 34-year-old Bruss after he had trouble getting the Zamboni off the ice. He also had trouble standing. According to police reports, Bruss had a blood-alcohol level of .32. As in 4 times the legal limit.

Bruss has been charged in Dakota County District Court with four counts of drunken driving. Three of the charges are gross misdemeanors, one is a misdemeanor.

I guess operating a Zamboni counts. Actually, it does according to Minnesota Law. Minnesota’s DWI law stipulates that it is a crime to drive, operate, or be in control of any motor vehicle anywhere in the state while under the influence of alcohol.

In fact, you could argue that he was 8 times over the limit since it is illegal to be operating a commercial vehicle with a BAC Level of .04 or above. And I would think a Zamboni would be a commerical vehicle, right? I mean, it's probably not Bruss' Zamboni. Probably the Hayes Ice Arena's vehicle.

Either way, yeah. Illegal.

Hockey Cop. This is right up my alley.
